James Baxter dontation: Enchanted

Here is another donation from Enchanted. This is a truly amazing piece of work. There are so many layers of animation happening in this test, it takes many many many views to see everything that is being worked out. What I really love about this piece is the care that goes into building the character, adding the clothing, the hair, the extra bits of cloth that hang from the main part of the dress and the way everything is strongly driven by the way the character is moving down the stairs. Being able to see the construction through the dress is a real treat for me. Enjoy this masterful work as I did.

Pencil Test Depot (quicktime requests)

I have noticed that many people have asked for the clips to be placed in quicktime format. In an effort to respect my colleagues and the animators on the site, I would want to leave the mass distribution of work up to the people who have created the animation. Some of these clips are on Youtube as well as other sites, so they are able to be viewed there for frame by framing. I want everyone to understand that I know that you want to study the work bit by bit, but I think if I make the files downloadable without the consent of the artists, the depot will lose a lot of potential donations as well as respect. I think the community has been supportive because the work is not being passed out widely over the net. WHAT I WILL DO IS...I will ask for downloadable donations from the artists that I know and this will give us the best of both worlds! Lets keep our fingers crossed that this will come to light. If so I will set up an ftp where you can grab the clips easily. I appreciate the donations and we will continue to show the respect and appreciation for the animators that are posted on this site. I hope that everyone understands and can continue to enjoy the work here.

I appreciate everyone who visits the site and I will do my best to make it as enjoyable as I can.

Bruce Smith & Team: Pacha from Emperors New Groove

I had a few moments to re read the emails (between unpacking) and view the links people I have sent. I have replied to them all but I cant figure out why they are getting kicked back. Anyway one link was this collection of Pacha animation. Bruce Smith was the supervising animator of Pacha so I am sure this a collection of his work and the guys/gals who worked with him. Bruce is definitely one of my favorite animators and one of the reasons why I am still animating to this day. I was hoping to gets some clearer versions of is work, but this is a great start. Thanks again for the donation!

oh and thank you guys for the support.

I am trying to resolve the technical problem, but please keep sending stuff because we can still get email. Secondly I want to apologize for the lack of new posts. I have pencil tests to put up but it may be a bit since I am still transitioning back to Los Angeles. soon..soon.. and thank you again

Lilo & Stitch: Deleted Sequences Pencil Tests!

Align Left
Model Citizen: Mayhem at the Beach

Bedtime Story

WOW!..Full pencil test sequences from Lilo and Stitch. These are deleted sequences and have a mixture of rough pencil and cleaned (mostly rough)! These are some really nice pieces and I have always been really impressed how Andreas Deja guided his team with the subtle child like motions of Lilo. The Beach sequence has some uncomfortable comments made towards Lilo (trying to play on the ignorance of some tourists) and I would guess as far as the Bedtime Story goes...they wanted to go more direct to the point of showing the love between the two sisters even after the argument. I definitely would say that the sequence that they went with in the film is pretty strong. If you haven't seen the movie, do a comparison and see how you feel...discussion?

Enjoy!

The Princess and The Frog: first 5 mins with Pencil Tests

The Cartoon Brew has posted the first 5 minutes of The Princess and the Frog which also contains a mixture of finished sequences and pencil test sections. It's exciting to see Disney return to the fairytale because they stayed away from it for a long time. We now get both things that made them stand out. I know you have heard jokes and funny comments about singing and dancing in animation, but it is something that is very impressive if done correctly. Not many people have the skill set to mix acting and musical performance and make it very entertaining. Madam Mim is a great example from Sword and the Stone, King Louis from Jungle Book, and many others. I look forward to this movie and I am sure most of the people who follow the blog will be seeing it as well.

Swing by Cartoon Brew, give your two cents, or click the link on the right and enjoy.

Thanks again for the emails and the donations. New posts coming soon!
